This morning at breakfast, the boys and I were comparing and contrasting knit and crochet, machine knitting and hand knitting ( I taught them the chain stitch yesterday, and this morning M made one that was as tall as he was.) I mentioned that to my knowledge, there are no machines that crochet (Am I wrong blogesphere?) That started DH thinking how to make one, which I found annoying. But, the joy of “surely there’s a way to do xyz…” is not about filling a need, or doing what you have to, it’s just fun to solve problems. I ought to know that.
On Ravelry this morning, I read a post about how one new designer is concerned that her designs are too much focused on her own taste to be commercially successful. It’s just fun to make things, but hard to make them for two audiences at once. I think that her designs will do fine, from her photos though, there are a lot of people in this world, and a bunch of them will like her designs. Surely there’s a way…
B caught the hang of slip stitch, single crochet and double crochet, although he is tensioning his yarn weird. M wasn’t tensioning when he made his giant chain, so when I showed him slip stitch, he melted in frustration. Great, I’ve used up his cool and we haven’t even gotten to phonics yet this morning.
I have to teach him how to calm down. I have to teach him phonics. Surely there’s a way…
