Invisible Victories

My Friend Annie has started a linkup of Invisible Victories posts.  Talk about encouraging – what has been working lately? The shy happy things?

I don’t have photos to go with the victories, so I’m just putting in photos that are recent – because remembering to post photos counts as an invisible victory, right?

Half the girls in my co-op knitting class are purling – and still, no one is crying.

I got Ben to the PSAT at the New Testament Christian Academy on time.  He was so tired afterwards, it’s like aliens had abducted him and he was still partly in space. One nice dinner with meat in it, extra sleep and a nice movie and he’s back to normal.  Only his jokes make a little more sense without an explanation of context – maybe all those little circles about word meanings actually did his humour some good?

So far Dan’s lab is moving to the next town, and while the contractors estimates on when they will be installing things are usually off by a few hours, and Dan still has tests to set up (with notes that this piece of equipment is not moving yet) so far, I have not driven off in the minivan on days he needs it, and I have gotten everyone to music lessons, co-op classes, ballet and play rehearsals without stranding him in Rhode Island.

Yesterday when I insisted that Ben organize his notebooks and kit his homework assignments together as long as he was organizing his weekly planner – it took longer than I’d expected for all the exploded homework assignments to get off the kitchen table…where I usually do M and K’s morning lessons while Ben is at the library.  Since it was my idea, I couldn’t complain about it – not with any credibility anyway.

To my surprise, K adored school on the front porch, especially when she practised handwriting on the side walk with chalk.  It let her use her whole body, I should have known.

Yesterday, when K had a friend over, they built a blanket fort, played music on the electronic piano, dress up, and sprinkle the Blitz cards all over K’s new pink room. But no one yelled, cried, or asked to play Minecraft until the last 10 minutes of the visit.

So far this football season, Ben has had a meal for every marching band rehearsal or football game.  Speaking of which, I’d better get his sausages and mashed potatoes warmed up enough to stay hot in his thermos, he plays for the game tonight.
