That day B went to the aquarium with DH? The rest of us tried to have a regular school day. Funny, it turns out that having B along means that things really run smoother, who knew? It was 11:30 AM, half hour later than our usual run to the park and wind up in the library time, and no one even had shoes on.
And the hogie fixings were calling me from the counter, why should I wait to make them on Friday for co-op? Dan and B were eating them in Boston right now. I decided that as long as I didn’t have a teenager with serious studies to keep us home in the afternoon, I’d do a homeschooling young kids day, and combine outside time with a picnic. Even though it was November.
So we packed a picnic, and drove to Caratunk Wildlife Refuge. The kids enjoyed dropping the donation into the birdhouse in the sign in spot, and the picnic table was handy. We stopped at CVS first for TP and jelly beans. Life’s essentials.
As usual, it was colder away from our house, I need to get better at the “pack your hats and coats even if you aren’t cold now.” Speech. But luckily, we hadn’t cleaned out the car recently, so there were two hats that should have been put away earlier for us to wear.
K’s kinda sorta fit me, almost.
The kids were so happy to walk the trails, I didn’t get photos of the prettiest parts, because they were running so near the stream I had to make sure they didn’t fall in.
K was most happy when she asked me if she could climb on the rocks or stone walls, and I said yes. Because we didn’t have anywhere we had to go, or any schedule to keep. We could explore at her speed. It was amazing.
Until her natural nap time crankyness kicked in. But after all that fresh air, she actually slept.
I love the fresh air nap effect – even for me! Looks like chilly fall fun.
Oh, me too!
