When M did his map work yesterday, he had to draw a star to mark Baghdad. He drew a four pointed start, sort of a square with dimpled sides. I realised that I’d never shown him how to draw a five pointed star, and demonstrated. Then M panicked, thinking he’d made a mistake. I reassured him that he’d done fine, very well actually to come up with his own method of drawing a star. Then I showed him the Vi Hart video about star doodles, and he asked to trace the pattern blocks to try drawing some 6 pointed stars and 12 pointed ones.
This cheerful bunny trail lasted until K tried to steal the sketchbook, and M got frustrated at trying to copy pattern blocks.
So we went back to regularly scheduled homeschool.
