In the last month, we have had a sickness that took 2 weeks to leave us, and a vacation. The kids had more free time than usual, and I was pleased with how they chose to use it.
B got out a book of Norse Myths, and read some of them to M, he wanted to see how close Cressida Crowell’s portrayal of Hiccup was. ( I didn’t tell them that that book is on the reading list for next year. Shhh.) B also has been making Lego gear boxes, working towards a clock, I think. He can spin Bionicle life dials at a 1:6:60 ratio right now.
M always makes models during nap time, but they seemed even better than usual. Whenever he gets a dinosaur dvd from the library, he adds features to his dragon models, then tells me about the beast as if it were a documentary, including life cycle and behaviors.
Over break, B checked out Patrick MacManus books to read aloud to us, and How to Train Your Dragon on CD. We laughed and laughed through that one. He’s also been reading up on prime numbers and borrowing math books from the adult non fiction section of the library.
It’s as if we Un-schooled.
We’ve had weeks of illness, too… no fun. Glad there were some happy rabbit trails!
It gets better: today M made honey milk balls from the more with less by himself. Of course, they were a little runny because they were heavy on the honey, but a cool surprise for “Mom, may I make myself a snack?” I thought he meant toast.
