We declared school done a week ago. Last week I planned the big picture for the first 6th of everything, make a weekly calender book to write plans in, printed maps and worksheets to interleave…studied up on the Illustrated Wordless book, and even stayed home from the Sunday school picnic on Saturday to concentrate.
But now the big plans are done and I have a case of the now-whats. M and K have had fevers, I think it’s something piggybacking on everyone’s ragweed reactions. It’s been raining, so we have been enjoying indoor life without much guilt. Blocks, dvds, playing games.
I do need to study my lessons for the Family Fun Fair – I’m up to familiarity with the scriptures involved, I need to be able to know my outline from looking at the pictures, with a clear idea of what important points to hit. I also need to imagine the fine points of a school week – like what we can fit into a day and when, and who will watch K while we do it. She tucks into M’s kitchen table school pretty well if she has a lot of play dough or crayons, as long as her ambitions remain within her solo capacities.
Speaking of K, yesterday she scared me half to death. She was sticking birthday cake candles into her playdough cakes, when she told me “mouth hurt, I eat cookie.” She is teething, and she had been making play dough cookies, but what she pointed at was an open package of button batteries that I did not know had been in the drawer with the candles!
DH took her to the ER where two X-rays confirmed that she had not eaten the batteries – though we were warned to look for signs that the X-rays had missed one. K was in her just before bed time mania and was jumping on, off and between chairs and gurneys. The staff started calling her the energizer bunny.
How scary! I’m glad she’s okay!
