The Chi-Cheemaun is the ferry to Manitoulin Island, it mean Big Canoe in Ojibewa.
Just as supper at Uncle D’s cabin was ending, DH would quickly read a passage from the through the Bible in one year book, sometimes just the proverb, and we would walk the little kids down the road to see the Chi-Cheemaun dock. The big kids often took over clean up duty of the dishes, and joined us later.
And THEN, Daddad bought the grandkids ice cream!
The Sweet shop wasn’t actually there when DH and his sibs were kids, but buying ice cream after the Chi-Cheemaun docked is an old tradition.
This planter struck B as funny, so we posed.
