We had a pool running: how many times would we have to play Steve Green’s Hide ‘Em in Your Heart CD for K to keep her cheerful. No one won. She has figured out that we play the CD to calm her, and become insulted when we do. “I WANT to ‘No! No!'” she would say.
My Aunt M sent the kids a package of amusements, including the new Focus on the Family Radio Theater’s Screwtape Letters. But we had to wait for a time when K was asleep and M was patient, to listen to it, because she thought it was scary and he had trouble with the vocabulary.
I loaded up the MP3 players with books from Libravox: DH says we’ll use different headphones next time, M could not hear very well over the car motor and AC.
We stayed with my cousin S East of Rochester. His kids are adorable,
and he makes a mean French Toast. His wife is such a gracious hostess, it was fun to get to know her better.
We stopped at Niagara Falls (Canadian side) on our way up to Tobermory Ontario. I was actually attempting to shade M’s eyes, but I covered his face instead – oops.
The boys were holding an innocent discussion of what would happen if they jumped over the fence when I said, “Everyone away from the falls.”
DH had to explain that my imagionation and mommyness just didn’t deal well with physics discussions involving peril and my kids. They thought I was nuts.
And eventually, K did quite down, and we did get to Tobermory.
The Monday home after the trip and unpacking, K told B that she wanted to go to the Chi Chi Mon ferry boat. He told her that we needed to drive to Tobermory for that. She grabbed my hand, pulled me toward the back door, and announced, “I want to go CAR.” So, even K thought it was worth it.
