I did set up a spreadsheet with sizes, gauge, and approximate stitch count, but since the mittens have a mix of stitches, those numbers are only so helpful. I took the mitten that is so big it fits my husband, and traced on paper the size I actually want the palm section to be, then I cut it out as a mask. I lay the mask on the decorative back of the hand section, and copied the shaping onto the graph.
I drove B to his flute lesson yesterday, DH took M and K to the park. so instead of playing with the younger kids in B’s teacher’s lawn, I wrote pattern notes in the car while listening to PRI’s the World. I think I can proceed with the written instructions now.
This is so like writing up a formal lab, only no deadline or grade.
I have so much trouble reading knitting patterns that it seems mysterious and wonderful that anyone could write them!
