K nursed herself to sleep half an hour ago, so I just finished re-engineering the elastic for my pants. Phew. Now we can move the sewing stuff, and I can get dressed even if I’m a day or two behind in laundry.
I made view C of Vogue M8499. I love the articulated knees, the top stitching (This was my first time buying actual top stitiching thread, and using a long stitch lenght, what a difference!), and that it is a Marcy Tilton pattern, as I’ve enjoyed some of her writing in Threads Magazine.
When I measured myself, I gasped at how the true size of a sewing pattern is so different from the vanity sizing of commercial pants. However, since I was between sizes, I could have gone a size down, as these are rather oversized, (funky fun oversized though, as DH said.) I wound up taking them in 3/8 inches at all seams, adding snaps to the pockets to keep them from gaping, and adding two more rows of elastic to the back waist, as one row just didn’t hold them up on my high waist yesterday when I test wore them. (B pointed out that my shirts gape if my pants are on my low waist.)
Test wearing them today after the additions, they feel secure, pretty, funky and fun. I’ll post a photo once the camera emerges from the moving confusion. Or maybe I left it at my Mom’s house this Sunday? On the stool in the kitchen? Mom, do you know?
I have fabric and everything sitting, waiting… but no pants yet. Maybe I need a new pattern (especially a hip, fun, funky pattern?)– or an evening free. Dream on. =)
