We had a fun planning meeting last night. DH reminded me that my nerves are like a race horse’s: I shake, but I love this stuff. Who knows why ;-)
We’ve got a fun short semester planned; the first and second graders will have a beginning recorder class, and then a winter nature study (I’ll be looking over at the Handbook of Nature Study Blog a lot for ideas!) the middle kids will have a "problem solving" class where they work in groups on challenges, like the egg drop, then join the older kids for a cartooning class. The older ones will be finishing up the Fallacy Detective book.
Today we went over to the zoo after nap time. The Lion Rameses roared at me from across his moat: I jumped so high! The sloth bears were very active and cute.
I want to be in the beginning recorder class and the winter nature study! Go get Discover Nature in Winter from the library– it's excellent. Many of the species (esp trees and birds) she addresses aren't found out here, but should be great where you are. But even without the specific species, I've learned so much. Good job, Christine!
