I did send the camera, but they forgot to take photos. I had romantic ideas about how fixing Grandma’s dryer would go for DH and the boys; turns out, they did learn some things, but it went a little more like when they help me around the house than I thought it would. Still, they saw the inside of a dryer, I’ve never seen that!
What did the girls do while the guys were fixing the dryer at Grandma’s house? Dishes with music (K in her play pen) bath, diaper, jammies, board books, nursing, into bed with dollies and board books and protestations of wakefullness followed by all quiet from the nursery. I then worked on M’s birthday scrapbook, and listened to Ravi Zacherias on line.
DH’s description
1 we turned it on and verified that yes there was a loud squeak.
2 Slowest: unplugged it, turned the drum by hand, and the squeak was still there
3 Longest part, figuring out how to get inside of the thing( I took a lot of unnecessary screws off, once we figured out that, we had the whole thing apart IE (M interrupted; the entire spinny thingy, there are two wheels in there, and a motor, a real motor) DH again: the control box was off, the top was off, the back was off, the front was off, the door was off, and the drying drum was completely out of the dryer. And we found a couple of wheels that were in desperate need of lubrication, and a motor that seemed to be in good shape, and a little tensioning pulley that took me a while to figure out how to put back. The putting it back was interesting, like a 3-d puzzle. Um, had to put the drum back in, with the belt wrapped around it and then figure out how the tensioning pulley worked, the belt goes around the drum, underneigth the tensioning pulley, then back up the spindle of the motor. It’s easier when you see it .
4 then I put the front back on, screw the front on, grit my teeth when I drop a little metal clip back into the dryer
5 get the clip out
6 put the front back on,
my question how did the boys interact through this?
DH, they were downstairs at first with the tools, but Daddy was a bit clipped with them about playing with tools on the floor with them underfoot, so M went upstairs to play computer games, and B was reading library books. They helped me disassemble the dryer. And B was there when I lubed up the wheels.
So, what was the inside of the dryer like?
B Ummm, let me think, umm, hmmm, well, there was a umm hmmm, a drum thingy, and I held top for Dad, there were also some vents, a big tube leading into it, and some wires. I held up the lid.
M Like a big, like tubey thingy, well, there was little wire, in the back, and more thingies, the front, the top was like a big round thing, a couple of wires. we took out the round thing, there was a motor, some wheels, from the front it looks the same thing, and that’s it.
