As a part of my organize the workshop project, I’ve been thinking about roadblocks to scrapbooking. Like most women’s hobbies, scrapbooking involves guilt.
Here is a list of hobbies followed by possible guilt road blocks. They are meant to be fictional, but could describe me:
knitting: I’ve only made a pair of mittens for one of my children, if I don’t make a pair each, I’m showing favoritism, so I can’t knit the vest I want to knit, because I haven’t finished the mittens, even though I hate knitting the second pair of things.
Scrapbooking; I haven’t done an album of regular family photo since the last baby was born;
Baking; cookies show love, but everyone in my family should be watching their cholesterol
Sewing; the lining fabric costs as much as a whole ready made dress, I wouldn’t buy couture, should I really be sewing it?)
Guilt also involves not getting around to making scrapbooks because I was feeling to guilty!
Anyway, I bought a 12×12 ring bound album so the road block of not having an easy place to add pages too is gone. Tuesday night I bought a small chipboard album from the Paperchase section of Borders, and dressed it up as a central place to keep sketches of page layouts I admire.
I also made two stencils for quick copying: a square for 12×12 and 8×8 layouts, with two rectangles cut that are cut to scale for what a 6"x4" photo would be on a 12×12 or 8×8 page; and a stencil for 8.5×11 layouts with a 6×4 rectangle scaled to that too.
As a last touch, I added a bellows pocket to keep the stencils in.
Maybe I can organize the sketches by layouts with for 3 vertical photos or 2 horizontal and one vertical…or maybe I’ll organize it by layouts that feel modern, layouts that feel peaceful, layouts that feel classic… But I will probably just record random layouts that I like. At least they will be all in one book. (then I’ll loose the book ;-)
Anyway, I got to use my birthday big bite crop-o-dile to make the holes in the chipboard cover for my brads to attach the book plate and flowers. Any project that uses tools is a fun project in my book!
