Yesterday B went to my friend’s funeral with me while DH watched the little kids and fixed B’s black MP3 player. B wanted to pay his respects too, Doug spent an evening at our house last Fall showing B and M his radiation detector and some radioactive household materials. B poured over the periodic table after that, and picked out library books about various elements. We crunched over snow piles on the sidewalks the 5 blocks to the memorial service. I had skipped my high school reunion, but I recognized several people by their stance and the people they clustered with, some nodded, some hugged me. So many people came out that there was standing room only, and only 2 programs left by the book to sign in. All the speeches about Doug made me feel like I was getting to know him, but also that everything is too late now.
DH let me take a turn to be the grown up from our family at prayer meeting last night too, I really wanted the encouragement of singing hymns and being with them. Mrs W, a retired missionary from Brazil asked me about my friend’s family and promiced to add them to her prayer list. DH said, "ah, you brought out the big guns." when I got home.
I gave B today to catch up on his assignments, my Mom arrives tonight for his Latin lesson, she fit him in by arranging to eat her supper while teaching him, then rushing off to Bible study – what a lady! She’s been shorthanded at her office lately, hence the time crunch.
Today seemed a bit flat, I didn’t have as much teaching work to do with B since he is catching up on assignments, and between my cold and mourning my friend, everything feels a bit dull. Even with a sweater, socks and slippers I’m cold around the edges. M has been building siege weapons out of his Duplos, K is napping now that she is no longer poopy or constipated, and B is trucking through his math homework, in fact he must be working on his English measurement KEY-TO book, because he just came in to measure me in hand-breadths. That tickled.
B picked out a new recipee for supper, so figureing that out should add some spice to the afternoon, maybe I’ll bring in our Chronicles of Narnia CDs from the car to play in the kitchen while I do that. M is up, time to fix his snack and pour his milk.
