In a panic that the "Models in Physical Science" books were no longer available from Pitsco, I bought all the Bernie Zubrowski books from allbookstores.com
that were not already owned by Eagle’s Wings co-op or the library system. Then I wrote a letter to the publisher begging them to republish them.
They wrote back! Mr Zubrowski had bought the rights to them when the company changed hands. So I google-ed him, found him, e-mailed him to ask him to have them re-published (please please pretty please, my daughter’s first smile was at the cardboard mobile I made for a balancing toys class…) and he wrote back – he’s just revised them for Kelvin, they will be republished soon under the name Models in Technology and Science.
Anyone who wants hands-on physical science integrated with daily objects, history, math, art, engineering and fun, BUY THESE BOOKS. They are great for co-ops, humanities type moms, and mixed aged groups.
Mean while, I have 10 used books coming in the mail to do science with my boys (and my baby, when she is old enough) – everything from ball point pens, syphons, tracks and balls to cake baking and ice cream making experiments. I never thought getting the science in would be a problem, because I studied chemistry in college. Then when it turned out I was wrong, I thought I’d just teach science classes at co-op that my kids would take, and that would solve everything. But I got interested in teaching other stuff too, or tired from administrating…so I’m back to thinking, we’ll do art, science, and history for our big project on three different days in the week, skill building basics daily, and see how it flies.
What other goodies are coming? Latina Christiana, Barry Stebbings books "Feed my Sheep" and "I can do all things" art books, all of the Key to… series of math books, Story of the World Volume 3 book and activity book (I finally am buying the activity book instead of just getting what is available from the library to supplement interesting chapters – though I know it’s going to lead me into temptation as far as buying even more cool books goes)
And for my education/ammusment: part one of calculus without tears, and "Enough about grammar."
