So they were Listening Last Night

I read the boys the Christmas chapter from "Farmer Boy," last night. This didn’t go over as well as might have been expected, as Daddy had gone with Grandma to prayer meeting (I’d gotten a call that the lady who holds children’s meetings wouldn’t be there that night) and instead of funny Patric McMannus essays from Daddy, I was reading. Strike one.  I hadn’t whetted their appetite for the story first, Strike Two.
But, I read to them anyway, and when we got to the fistfight in the barn where Cousin Frank has spooked the colt, they perked up.  They really liked the snow fort part, and thought the throwing the stick and moving hands up who goes first game was a good idea (we usually use eny meny miny moe with the PC ending, but a stick might be a better idea anyhow).
Today when I looked out the kitchen window to call them in for lunch, I saw that they had definitely paid attention to the story last night!

  1. That is so cute! We finished reading Farmer boy during the summer. We have SO enjoyed the little house series.

When we got to the end of the book, I couldn't finish it cause I kept tearing up. My 9 year old had to read the last pages.

Isn't it a wonderful feeling when you know that your children REALLY were listening? What a blessing.
