Today I had my oldest boy work on school work he is likely to forget if he doesn’t get daily re-enforcement, then took them both shopping, for their grandparent’s presents. They get great delight from getting to pick out presents, even if it does involve a lot of me saying – No, I think Grandma would like some stamping or scrap book notions better than a Lego kit.
We’ve made a list of various areas of their bedrooms for them to go though and sort into 3 bags – give away, throw away, keep, then to put the keeps back. My younger son has had fewer Christmases and Birthdays to gather things from, so he gets one area a day, my older boy has gotten two areas a day. It takes a lot of work on his part, he doesn’t have me supervising him, so he sorts into ‘give away,’ ‘throw way,’ ‘keep,’ and ‘ask Mom’ piles!
Both of them have lots of things from Sunday School, Homeschool Co-op, and Homeschool hand me downs, so the Ask Mom part is usually semi-educational things they aren’t sure if I’m going to use in a lesson plan someday.
I’m hoping next month before baby Kari is born to have gotten some headway on the boys new bedroom. Part of planning that is measuring how much toy and book storage space they will need.
I may be a Grinch – But I sure hope all this space we are making doesn’t get taken up next week with new stuff!!!!!
