The living history museums in my area must all get the same games and suggested activities: the kids played the game of the graces, hoops, and bat and ball…again. But they did it with enthusiasm, and the ones who had played them before showed the ones who had not played them how to do it, It was a glorious sunny day, usually November is pretty dour by now, but our trees still have most of their leaves.
After making a few crafts in the Arnold house (built in 17something), with its impossibly wide oak floor boards, we looked at some tools for making joints in post and beam buildings, then cut a joint out of styro-foam. That was new, as was the list of local hard wood and soft wood trees – the kids had trouble listing local trees, we’d better do some nature study or something to remedy that soon.
Our picnic was enhanced by leftover brownies from the baptism service last night, one of the deaconesses stood near the coffee table with wrapped plates saying, "Take the leftovers PLEASE." They were regular brownies on the bottom, but topped with melted marsh mellow, chocolate chips, then Grahme crackers.
